MO First Step Brochure

Missouri First Steps is the state's early intervention system for infants and toddlers, providing family-centered supports for children with developmental needs. The brochure explains eligibility, referral, evaluation, IFSP planning, and how services are coordinated through a service coordinator and Early Intervention Team, including how services are provided in the family's natural environment and how plans are reviewed as children approach age three. Missouri First Steps provides early intervention services for children from birth to 36 months who have a diagnosed physical or mental condition associated with developmental disabilities, a high probability of a developmental delay, or a measurable developmental delay. Foster Care, Adoptive - Kinship Transportation Help Here

CMFCAA, in partnership with Missouri Ozarks Community Action, is expanding a transportation program to help foster, adoptive, and kinship families get to important appointments and services across Mid-Missouri -- including medical appointments, work or job training, school or educational programs, court or required appointments, and other essential services. The program serves residents of Camden, Crawford, Dallas, Miller, Pulaski, and Phelps counties. SNAP Food Assistance Program

SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) provides a monthly benefit, loaded onto an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, to help eligible Missouri residents buy food. Eligibility depends on household income, size, and resources. Apply online or by mail, then complete an interview if required; eligibility is typically determined within 30 days. Apply at mydss.mo.gov/food-assistance/apply-for-snap or call the Family Support Division at 1-855-823-4908.

Crawford County Substance Use Prevention Coalition

The Crawford County Substance Use Prevention Coalition delivers prevention education for parents and youth in Crawford County. Its mission is to help youth build healthy lifestyles free of addictive substance use, with a focus on preventing first-time use of vapes, alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco. The coalition has applied to be recognized as a Missouri registered coalition with the Missouri Department of Mental Health, which includes membership with the Missouri Prevention Network. Its work centers on stopping first-time substance use among area youth as a key step in preventing progression to more serious drugs, including opioids.

Headstart Enrolling Flyer

Missouri Ozarks Community Action (MOCA) Head Start is now enrolling children who will be 3 years old before July 31st. Documentation needed includes proof of the child's birth, proof of family income, immunization records, and TANF, Disability (SSI), or SNAP (food stamps) documentation or eligibility of services. Head Start operates under a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Children with and without disabilities are encouraged to apply. Help Getting Groceries

MOCA Transit is recruiting volunteer drivers to help community members get to the grocery store. Volunteers set their own schedule, choose which rides to take, and drive as far or as local as they're comfortable. Drivers are reimbursed 70 cents per mile. QPR Project Aware Suicide Prevention

The QPR Project AWARE program offers suicide prevention training to teach participants how to recognize warning signs, provide hope, and connect people to resources. Trainings are available in-person (120 minutes) or virtually (90 minutes) and can be scheduled by schools or groups. The course is meant for parents, teachers, first responders, mental health professionals, and community members who want to become certified QPR gatekeepers. CMFCAA provides essential assistance and support to kinship, foster, and adoptive children, young adults, and families in central Missouri. Services include food, clothing, furniture, Begin Again Backpacks, monthly respite events, and life-skills training for youth aging out of care. The organization also hosts support groups and conferences for foster and kinship families and works to find viable family members for children in foster care. Cuba Warming Centers

Evening and overnight shelter opens at Recklien from 5 p.m. until 8 a.m. when temperatures drop. These locations provide a warm, safe place for community members during cold conditions. SMTS Crawford County Schedule

SMTS, Inc. offers door-to-door transportation service throughout Crawford County, with both local and long-distance routes. Local service runs Tuesday through Friday to Rolla, Sullivan, Steelville, and Cuba, with appointments scheduled between 10am and 2pm. Long-distance service runs to Columbia (2nd and 4th Monday) and St. Louis (1st and 3rd Thursday), and requires at least 2 business days' advance notice. Riders with Medicaid may qualify for free transportation through MTM's NEMT benefit -- call 1-866-269-5927 or visit mtm-inc.net/missouri to check eligibility. MOCA Transit - Rides

MOCA Transit, offered through Missouri Ozarks Community Action, provides a volunteer driver network for door-to-door transportation to essential appointments for residents of Camden, Crawford, Laclede, and Miller counties. Rides are available for medical appointments, pharmacy and grocery trips, food banks, and other essential needs. To request a ride, call at least 48 hours in advance, Monday through Friday, 8am to 3:30pm. Community members interested in volunteering as drivers can use their own vehicle, set their own schedule, and receive mileage reimbursement at $0.70 per mile -- no special license required. Call 573-765-3183 to request a ride or ask about volunteering.

PLUS 1 Parenting Help

P.L.U.S. 1 (Parents: Learning, Uniting and Succeeding) supports pregnant and parenting moms and dads under age 22, meeting them where they are to build strong, healthy relationships with their children. Services include one-on-one home visits, group nights with dinner and discussion, parenting classes by age group (prenatal through preschool), fun activity days and field trips, help meeting personal life goals, and mentoring support. Participants can also earn "baby bucks" toward items their family needs. P.L.U.S. 1 is a program of The Community Partnership, located at 1101 Hauck Drive, Rolla, MO. Vital ID - MO Photo ID

Vital ID of East Central Missouri helps residents obtain a Missouri State photo ID, Social Security card, and birth certificate at no cost, believing access to health care, housing, employment, and voting are basic human rights. The program now serves 16 Missouri counties, including Crawford, and provides financial assistance for birth certificates and photo IDs once per year per client. All documents obtained are kept confidential. The program grew from one volunteer's effort in Franklin County into a 16-county network carried on by her family and friends after she passed away in early 2025.
